" I like to keep it open to interpretation but I like to think some people might see it to be about romance and love, some might see it to be about the environmental crisis the world is facing or maybe they see it as both of those things - we as humans have a nature to be destructive and self- destructive." - Matt Macken
From June 21 to July 21, Nil Gallery welcomes "Pyromaniac", the first solo exhibition in France by British artist Matt Macken. Through his paintings, Macken invites viewers to reflect on the devastating consequences of global warming. Using the subtle allegory of the Pyromaniac, whose flames devour the surrounding beauty, the artist reveals with provocative boldness the implacable reality of the destruction humanity is relentlessly inflicting on the planet and its fragile ecosystems. Macken's masterful compositions thus reveal themselves to be a powerful metaphor, a vibrant echo of global warming, its devastating effects and the scathing derision that accompanies persistent inaction in the face of this crisis.
