Lucas Almeida

Biography

"A wall can be anything that serves as a divider between spaces, offering protection and/or marking the boundaries of a specific area."

- Lucas Almeida

Lucas Almeida (b. 1995), is a visual artist based in São Paulo, graduate of graphic design and visual arts. His artistic practice is characterized by an exploration of contrasts, balance, and imbalance, reflecting a deep-seated urge to create visual "noise." Almeida employs a diverse array of paper in his collages, which results in a constantly shifting surface texture. His work frequently transcends traditional canvas, incorporating unconventional materials like cardboard and kraft paper.

Almeida's art delves into themes of humanity through non-polarized processes, drawing inspiration from black music and art history to better understand his environment and those around him. His creative process is inherently cyclical; each image he creates spawns another, evolving within the rich tapestry of references that populate his visual universe.

Lucas has participated, among others, in exhibitions such as "FUNK! Um grito de ousadia e liberdade" at the MAR (Museum of Att of Rio de Janeiro), "Paura" at the Galeria ERA in Milan, Italy, and "Nossas sensações não são nossas" at the MIS (Museum of sound and image) in Rio de Janeiro.
