Alexandre Furcolin

Born in Campinas in 1988, Alexandre Furcolin is a visual artist and photographer from Brazil. Since 2005, he has called São Paulo his home, where he focuses on artistic research encompassing photobooks, installations, site-specific sculptures, and performances, all rooted in the language of photography. His work explores the formal and discursive possibilities within visual language, bridging the gap between images, drawings, paintings, words, and markings across various mediums, scales, time frames, and structures.

 

Furcolin has an impressive track record of nine photography-based books to his name, including notable titles such as 'São Paulo' (2021, part of the Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye Collection in Paris), 'Tangerina' (2019, published by Bessard Editions in Paris), and 'Casa Doze' (2015, a self-published work exhibited at 'Photo-Paged: On Brazilian Experimental Publishing' at Centre de la photographie Genève, Switzerland). His talent has earned him recognition, with two of his books shortlisted for the 'Prêmio Latinoamericano de Fotolivros' by Foto Museo Cuatro Caminos in Mexico (2017) and one shortlisted for the 'Felifa FOLA International Prize' at fototeca LatinoAmericana in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2017).

 

Furcolin's work has been featured in group exhibitions in galleries and institutional spaces worldwide, including the Cairo Biennale (2018 - Cairo, Egypt), Centro Cultural São Paulo (2017 - São Paulo), Galeria A Gentil Carioca (2017 - Rio de Janeiro), Fauna Galeria (2016 - São Paulo), and the Geneva Photo Center (2017 - Switzerland). Additionally, he has held three solo exhibitions in Brazil and has actively participated in various group shows and art fairs, such as RTRio, SPArte, and Paris Photo.
