Victor Henrique Fidelis

Biography

"It portrays the habit of relaxing, connecting with one's home, and the assurance of returning to the welcoming embrace of one's household."

- Victor Henrique Fidelis

Victor Henrique Fidelis is a visual artist from São Paulo. He holds a degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the University of São Paulo and is a self-taught artist who has been developing his artistic language through drawing and acrylic painting, which is currently his primary technique.

His works portray scenes and narratives featuring racialized individuals, especially within the context of popular culture. Fidelis revisits and recalls prominent figures from Brazilian modernist painting, using expressive forms and volumes characteristic of this repertoire to create the characters in his paintings.

Victor’s work suggests a shift in perspective within iconic Brazilian modern painting, aligning closely with the legacy of imagery left by great modernist painters but in a more intimate and personal manner. His paintings primarily depict scenes that construct his own biography, capturing familiar environments, everyday episodes, and moments of affection and celebration involving Black individuals, often people close to him, and sometimes even himself.

Fidelis has participated in group exhibitions at institutions such as the Museu de Arte do Rio (RJ), the Museu Nacional da República (DF), Casa das 7 Janelas (PA), and the Centro Cultural Solar Ferrão (BA), e Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil. Additionally, he has been part of art fairs both nationally and internationally, including ArtRio, SP-Arte, and the 1-54 Art Fair in Morocco.
