Expo Chicago: Contemporary Art Fair

Navy Pier, 24 - 27 April 2025
BOOTH 116
Nil Gallery is pleased to present brand new works by Belgian artist Gommaar Gilliams at EXPO CHICAGO, from April 24 to 27, 2025, at Booth 116. This solo exhibition unveils a fresh selection of paintings that continue Gilliams’ exploration of the interplay between harmony and chaos, where emotion, symbolism, and abstraction converge in a visual poetry that speaks to both the personal and the universal.

In these new pieces, Gilliams masterfully balances structured compositions with moments of frenetic energy, creating a tension between control and spontaneity. The artist’s trademark motifs—celestial elements, fragmented human forms, and fluid gestures—are reimagined with a renewed intensity, as they swirl and overlap in an intricate dance of color and form. These compositions embody both the serenity of harmony and the disruptive force of chaos, inviting the viewer to contemplate the constant push and pull between order and disorder in both the visual world and human experience.

Through his poetic use of color and form, Gilliams transforms seemingly chaotic layers into a unified whole, each piece offering a meditative reflection on the complexities of memory, identity, and transformation. The new works suggest a quiet narrative, where figures seem to emerge from the chaos—struggling, yet finding moments of balance in a vast, emotive universe.

This collection, debuting at EXPO CHICAGO, further deepens Gilliams’ exploration of the harmony between conflicting forces and the profound poetry that arises from their convergence, inviting the viewer to engage in a dialogue with both the emotional and symbolic layers of his work.
